Zesses Seglias wins the Rautavaara Competition

Jury awarded the Einojuhani Rautavaara Prize to Zesses Seglias. The Prize consists of a cash prize of 5000 euros plus a commission to write a work for the Helsinki Chamber Choir, worth 3000 euros.

 

The audience also voted for their favourite. The audience prize was awarded to Mike Solomon.

At the conclusion of the final concert, an international
jury will award the Einojuhani Rautavaara Prize, which

will be performed during the Helsinki Chamber Choir’s
2012/13 season.

Attend the Workshop as an observer

A limited number of observers can be admitted to the four choral sessions of the Rautavaara Workshop on 20 and 21 February.  Admittance is only possible at the start of each session.  Please reserve places in advance by emailing competition (at) helsinkichamberchoir (dot) fi

Payment of the admission fee (15€ for adults, 10€ for students and other concessions) entitles you to attend between one and all four sessions.

Monday 20 February 11am-1pm and 3pm-5pm
Tuesday 21 February 10am-12noon and 1.30pm-3.30pm

The Competition is organised in association with the Helsinki Chamber Choir and the Viitasaari Time of Music Festival.

 

Founder and Artistic Director: Nils Schweckendiek.

 

The International Einojuhani Rautavaara Chamber Choir Composition Workshop and Competition is an opportunity for young composers to work intensively with a professional chamber choir, using and developing the expressive possibilities of an ensemble of professional singers. Applications are invited from composers of any nationality born between 1 February 1977 and 31 January 1994 inclusive.

 

Participants will have the chance to work with the Helsinki Chamber Choir and two renowned composers in a Workshop before writing their final work for the Competition. The Competition will take place at the Viitasaari Time of Music Festival on 6-7 July 2012. At the conclusion of the final concert, an international jury will award the Einojuhani Rautavaara Prize to the composer of the work it deems the best.

 

Participants will receive free accommodation and a contribution towards their travel expenses.
